What a great Raw.

- Great match between Miz and Mysterio to start off the show. The Miz is progressing as a worker. AWESOME ricochet sitout powerbomb by Miz, and a great way to start the show. I was kind of upset when I saw they’re using the same belt, but the way it played out, the same belt makes it work better.

- Ziggler vs Bourne, was short, but good. And Ziggler was great after the match. I hope he keeps the US title for a while. “THIS, stays with ME!”

- Divas match was ok, but forgettable. Kind of sloppy, but it’s expected at this point. Lots of ass based offense. Very odd.

- HHH came out, and played the boss role very well. I thought his bit with Truth was hilarious, and I’m glad JoMo is back. He was on fire until he got hurt. It seems every one is forgetting this, but until the injury, he had a string of spectacular matches. His ladder match with Sheamus was my MOTY until Punk/Cena.

- JR. His inclusion makes every match so much better. He actually, you know, calls the matches, and includes logic and the names of the moves.

- WWWYKI. Ryder was in a squash match with Michael Cole, dressed as The Game. Surreal, but awesome nonetheless.

- Finally, Cena vs. Mysterio. This is a huge match, just in itself. It really is PPV caliber, and we got it for free on Raw, which I’ll get back to in a minute. Great match, especially considering it was Rey’s second of the night. Loved Rey using the STF on Cena, and Cena displaying his unbelievable strength. I don’t care if Rey is undersized, Cena was throwing him around like a ragdoll. I really like that when Cena pinned him, he locked both legs, and Rey did the same when he beat Miz earlier in the night.

- Punk coming out to Cult of Personality. Was confused at first, because I wasn’t aware he used it in ROH. But it works perfectly. And him holding up his belt higher than Cena, and his cheers being louder, with Cena walking off, proud of his battle with Rey, but almost ashamed to be holding a belt with Punk holding the “true” title, was perfect.

I’ll reiterate, a great show. I’ll go as far and say it’s the best overall Raw I’ve seen since the initial Punk promo. Built around wrestling, but also including storyline development and humor.

And yet, while on Twitter, I saw many complaints that they brought back Punk too soon. That they’ve ruined everything that they’ve built since before MITB. I don’t understand it. As Louis CK famously says, everything’s amazing, and nobody’s happy.

This show was seemingly built around pleasing the IWC. It featured several long matches, including two amazing matches to start and end the show, both of which were PPV quality, especially Rey vs. Cena. It featured the return of JR, AND Zach Ryder winning a match against the hated Michael Cole. Punk returned, in a great moment. I don’t understand why Punk returning so soon has angered people.

Why would he not return now? His championship is being whitewashed (or orangewashed, in the case of Rey) with a paper championship, one he has refuted the past several weeks on different social media. He himself said that he’s the best wrestler there is. Would he not want to defend his claim? Everyone’s saying this isn’t logical, with HHH in charge, “the doofus son-in-law”. There’s still some time before Summerslam, and I think we should see how it plays out first.

I also think people are already assuming that he’ll lose the belt to Cena at Summerslam (of the big four PPVs, which he and Cena will be assumedly headlining). WWE has changed their style drastically recently, and I think that has earned them a little good faith, to continue telling the story. If Cena wins, and Punk goes back to the midcard, then ok, you were right to complain. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, sometimes we should really just enjoy the show.
